Are Food Riots Coming to the U.S.?
(Bernie Carr) Just a quick post today, as I share interesting information I have come across.
It’s been reported that some countries are already experiencing protests against skyrocketing food prices. Rationing has also started in others.
Lebanon is rationing wheat as they primarily purchased from Ukraine, and supplies are running low, according to the Irish Times.
Protests have erupted in the southern region of Iraq due to skyrocketing prices as reported by Al-Jazeera.
Food rationing has started
Greece supermarkets have started rationing flour and sunflower oil.
Supermarket chains in Greece said on Thursday they are restricting how much flour and sunflower oil customers can buy, saying the step was precautionary after seeing demand rise on worries supplies will be hit due to the war in Ukraine.

In Italy, sugar, flour and sunflower oil are being limited.
Steak is no longer sold on the shelf at one Aldi’s
A post that went viral on TikTok, with the caption “Grocery Shopping” showed a sign that shoppers would have to ask an associate if they were looking for steaks.
The video started with a look at some bare shelves where the beef filet, black Angus beef, and beef cubed steak should be. A sign was taped to one of the bare shelves that read, “Due to high theft, we can no longer put steaks on the shelf. Please ask associates if needed. Thank you.” It concludes with the statement, “Sorry for the inconvenience.”
The TikToker zoomed in on the sign and then out again before the clip ended. On other areas of the shelf were different meat options, including beef stew meat and lean ground beef. However, the steak areas were void of any products.

As items become prohibitively expensive, more shoplifting occurs.
Food shortages can lead to unrest
