Politicians, Influencers Join Trump’s Truth Social While Average Folks Get Put On a Waiting List
(Madeleine Hubbard) Conservative politicians and influencers are opening accounts on former President Donald Trump’s Truth Social early as the social media platform is expected to launch to the public on President’s Day.
Former Rep. Devin Nunes, CEO of the Trump Media & Technology Group, told Fox News on Sunday that the app will be available this week and is expected to be “fully operational” within the United States by the end of March.
Conservative influencers and politicians began announcing on Twitter Sunday that they are opening accounts on the platform early.
“Proud to be on TRUTH Social!” Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-N.C.) tweeted.
Former Acting National Intelligence Director Ric Grenell tweeted his excitement about the platform and invited his Twitter followers to join him on Truth Social.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) also joined Truth Social early. “As the only Member of Congress to have had my personal [Twitter] account banned, I understand what millions of conservatives have gone through having their personal freedom of speech stolen from them by Big Tech for not parroting the approved messaging,” Greene tweeted on her congressional account.
Other members of Congresd who have joined Truth Social so far include Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), and it Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.).
Breitbart reporter Kristina Wong celebrated the social media outlet’s launch. “A little over a year after Twitter kicked Trump off its platform, he went and created his own. You just can’t keep him down,” she said.
The Truth Social beta is already being criticized by some outlets. The liberal Palmer Report tweeted, “Can’t wait for Trump’s Truth Social app to launch so it can immediately get suspended for rules violations.”
Former President Trump made his first post on the platform last week. “Get Ready! Your favorite President will see you soon!” he wrote.
Apple’s App Store says the new platform is expected to be available for download on Feb. 21, 2022. Those who preordered the app were able to download it late Sunday evening.
